How to Prepare NPTEL Data Science For Engineers 2025

The Examination is going to be held on March 22, 2025

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

• Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 6 assignments out of the total 8 assignments given in the course.

Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

Please note that assignments encompass all types (including quizzes, programming tasks, and essay submissions) available in the specific week.

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY
IF THE AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND THE EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. 

If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Important Things to Carry For Examination:

• Hall ticket ( Hard Copy ) 
• Any government proof ( Aadhar card, PAN card, driving license, voter ID) is required. 
• Candidate has to carry any one of the proofs which show Name, Photograph, and Date of birth (DOB). 
• A pen/pencil. 
• Any other documents if required mentioned in the hall ticket.

Mode of Exam: 

• Computer Based Examination
• All Questions will be given mcq's. 
• There will be no coding questions, but you will have pseudocodes.

How to prepare for the exam? 

• The Preparation is based on your understanding but it is easy to pass.

Week 1: Some important topics that must be known are variables and Datatypes. Control Structure. By understanding these you can attempt basic questions such as identifying the type of integer and the most important one was solving Pseudocode ( It means they give a code from which we have to find answers) already given in week 1 assignment. 

Week 2: This week 2 is the most important one. The important topics are

• How to find Eigen Values and Eigen Vector. 
• How to find a vector is linearly dependent or independent. 
• Solving linear equations to find whether it has a solution or no solution and unique solution. 
• Also to determine the rank, determinant of the matrix. 
• Also, Watch videos for more topics. 

Week 3: This week has Probability related concepts. 

• Hypothesis is the most important one. 
• Probability mass/ density function. 
• Finding mean, variance, and Covariance.   

Week 4: This week is also an easy one. Some of the important topics are

• How to find the maximum or minimum of f(x). 
• To find the gradient  and Hessian matrix
• Local maxima and local minima are most imp. and finding the point where it has local max or min is also needed.       

Week 5: 

• This week have langranges equation. 
• Finding maxima or minima for equation

Week 6: 

• Finding R^2 value, SSE. There will be some formulas can get from videos. 
• Also finding parameters of beta. 

Week 7:

• To find accuracy, the Sensitivity of the model

Week 8: 

• K cluster algorithm. 

Solving all the questions in the assignment will give you a 100% result.

• One must solve a minimum of 4 or 5 Weeks Assignments and understanding every concept will make you pass. 
• So, Prepare all the best.
